Our Experts

Chuck Smith  Chuck Smith – Partner – Widely regarded as the foremost authority on the Beechcraft King Air series, Chuck Smith followed his passion and founded C&J Aviation in 1988. Despite building a successful and thriving career in industrial real estate, this veteran sales professional “changed course” after playing a key role in establishing Santa Monica’s Museum of Flying. His experience and client base with Warbirds quickly evolved to the turboprop and jet markets, where he has assisted with over 500 transactions. “The key to success in this business, whether you are buying or selling,” Chuck tells clients, “is market intelligence.”

A pilot with over 8,000 hours of flight time in over 40 types of aircraft, Chuck’s expertise in aviation is unparalleled. His prior experience owning an aircraft maintenance facility for over 10 years has also given Chuck a special understanding of aircraft maintenance that he leverages for our clients. Sought after by many for his advice on King Airs and Warbirds, Chuck’s expertise has now expanded to include mid-to-large cabin business jets too.

Gary Goltz  Gary Goltz – Partner – A former corporate attorney, Gary Goltz joined C&J in 2004, bringing a wealth of expertise in aviation, in addition to helping clients successfully navigate the myriad of regulations and documents inherent in the aircraft sales process.

Gary became involved with corporate aviation in 1996 when he acquired two Hawker jets for a venture capital group where he served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel. While with the company, Gary helped found Heliflite, the first helicopter fractional ownership company in the world. He also managed the company’s flight department, gaining first-hand knowledge of the true cost/benefit of business aircraft. He retired from the practice of law and joined C&J in 2004.

Gary brings his expertise in negotiating complex mergers and acquisitions to the aircraft sales and acquisition process. He has been intimately involved in over 200 aircraft transactions, and is also a licensed insurance broker, advising clients on the nuances of aviation insurance. Goltz is a pilot with multi-engine engine and instrument ratings with over 1200 hours of flight time.

Danny Culler  Danny Culler – Danny brings over 30 years’ experience in sales and acquisitions for the complete Beechcraft line of aircraft. After serving in Vietnam with the US Army, Danny started flying in 1971, initially working as a line crewman for Piedmont Aviation. He served as a corporate pilot with Leggett Department Stores and then rejoined Piedmont Aviation/Landmark Aviation in 1978 as a Sales Representative. Throughout his career with Piedmont, Danny had been honored with the Beechcraft Million Dollar Plus Award Salesman, Beechcraft Bonanza Sales Award, Beechcraft Rookie Sales Award, Beechcraft King Air Legion of Honor Award and the Beechcraft Executive Salesman Award. He is a commercially rated pilot and type-rated in the King Air 300, 350 and Beech 1900. Danny has over 8,000 hours of flight time with approximately 5,000 hours in King Airs.
